Ever since the official release of LumaFusion four years ago, LumaTouch’s focus has been and continues to be enabling powerful workflows for mobile devices that allow people to edit anywhere. From the beginning we offered filmmakers and mobile journalists the ability to use editing tools and feature sets similar to what they were accustomed to on a desktop. With each subsequent release we have added to the power.
This latest update offers a number of new features including improved keying, support for HEVC with transparency, invert crop, and 10-Bit and HDR support. New and existing customers can download this update for LumaFusion via the App Store.
Improved Keying
Keying has been upgraded with new and improved functionality for Chroma Key and Luma Key. The updated Chroma Keyer now offers editors automatic key color detection, mask display, and advanced Erosion Distance, Edge Softness and Spill Suppression controls. These refined controls allow editors to perfect their keying and create more accurate keys. We’ve also added a Luma Keyer which features Luma Range, Rolloff, Erosion Distance, and Edge Softness controls. This new key offers editors another way of compositing clips by making certain luminance levels transparent.
HEVC with Transparency
With recent updates to iOS, iPhones and iPads now have the ability to import and edit HEVC media with a transparent background. Now with LumaFusion 2.4 on iOS 14 and supported devices you’ll be able to export HEVC media with a transparent background. This new feature enables editors to composite their exported movies in more creative ways.
Invert Crop
To help get your next shot cropped just right, LumaFusion 2.4 has a new option in the Frame and Fit section of the Clip Editor called Invert Crop. You’ll now have the option to quickly reverse your cropped image, giving you a different look when working with layered clips.
10-Bit and HDR Support
And finally, for all devices capable of running iOS 14, LumaFusion 2.4 editors will be able to import and edit 10-Bit footage and export the final video in 10-Bit color space. LumaFusion now supports three different types of HDR color space and all HDR color spaces are 10-Bit. Here’s breakdown of how you might use these new color space options:
- Rec.709 10-Bit gives you more color flexibility in post production compared to Standard – Rec.709 8-Bit
- Wide Gamut HDR – HLG supports iPhone 12 Pro/Max Dolby Vision. It is a commonly used color space and is supported by YouTube. Please note HLG footage is only viewable on YouTube with some browsers such as Chrome
- Wide Gamut HDR – HDR10 (PQ) is for mastering specific HDR displays
- Wide Gamut HDR – P3 D65 HLG is for mastering for the latest Macs and iPad displays
As always, thank you for your continued support! We look forward to adding new features and functionality for 2.5 and beyond. If you have any questions about any of the new features or would like to share feedback on LumaFusion 2.4, please email us at support@luma-touch.com.
